Ranthambore is the most reliable place in India to photograph a wild tiger, and the setting is unusual: a tenth-century fort standing above dry deciduous forest, with lakes, banyans and ruined pavilions scattered through the park. It is three hours from Jaipur, which makes a two-night stop easy to slot into almost any itinerary.
Two daily slots, morning and afternoon, in a 6-seat gypsy or a 20-seat canter. Zones 1–5 are the traditional core zones; 6–10 have become productive in recent years. Permits are released online well in advance and sell out fast in season.

October to April for comfortable safaris; April to June gives the highest sighting probability as animals concentrate around water, but the heat is severe. The park core zones normally close from 1 July to 30 September for the monsoon. Book safari permits as early as you can — 90 days ahead is not too early for weekends and holidays.

Most guests fly into Jaipur and drive across. We time the transfer so you arrive in Sawai Madhopur before the afternoon safari slot where possible.

A local package covers a set number of hours and kilometres with the driver waiting at each stop, which is far more practical than hailing a new ride at every monument.
